Ronald's Biography

Ron Fierstein with Grammy winner Shawn Colvin

RONALD is, in reality, artist manager Ron Fierstein.

In 1982 Ron formed AGF Entertainment, an artist management/record production firm with engineer/producer Steve Addabbo. Suzanne Vega, then a young member of the Greenwich Village folk singer circuit, was their first signing. With her 1985 debut for A&M Records, and her 1987 worldwide hit single "Luka" and album "Solitude Standing," Suzanne became a multi-platinum international artist, establishing herself as one of the leaders of the reemergence of the female singer songwriter genre. AGF's second signing was Shawn Colvin, who went on to become another of the most respected artists of her generation, winning three Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year for her 1997 hit, "Sunny Came Home".

Ron managed Suzanne Vega and Shawn Colvin each for more than fifteen years, helping to develop successful careers for both. As a manager, he has also represented Mary Chapin Carpenter, Dar Williams, Chiara Civello, The Blue Nile, Darden Smith and Terri Clark, among others. In the late 90s, Ron also launched an independent record label, Plump Records, specializing in singer songwriters including Eric Andersen, David Massengill, Peter Himmelman and others.

Ron has long been an avid music listener, having amassed a collection of thousands of vinyl albums and CDs from the early 60s to the present. He began his professional career as a musician, appearing with his band in Brooklyn's rock clubs of the 60s together with the major attractions of the period, including The Rascals, The Hassles (Billy Joel's band) and The Vanilla Fudge. In high school, he started a new band with his classmate Walter Becker, later of Steely Dan fame. After graduating from college, Ron recorded two albums in the early 70s with the band Arbuckle for Musicor Records and after its demise was a regular performer in the folk clubs of Greenwich Village and New England through the end of that decade. He has been a songwriter member of ASCAP since 1972. Ron has served on the Board of Directors of the Country Music Association, is a member of National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, has actively supported the Recording Artists Coalition, and is an alumnus of Nashville's Leadership Music Program.
